VPN on a Tenda router with the login from your account page

Router access over PPTP and OpenVPN is part of every Ben's VPN subscription. Your Tenda needs a client for one of these protocols in its firmware. Every device connected to it by Wi-Fi or cable then uses the VPN without its own app. The login and the server list are on your account page.

Connect a Tenda over PPTP in 4 steps

  1. Enable router access

On the account page, open Router → Other routers and press Show login and password. A login and a password appear on the page. The router can use them about 2 minutes later.

  2. Copy a server’s IP address

Choose a server in the list on the same page. Click its IP address to copy it, and skip servers marked offline. The same login and password work on every server in the list.

  3. Configure the PPTP client

On the Tenda’s admin page, open the PPTP client, not the PPTP server. Paste the IP as the server address, then enter the login and the password. Choose 128-bit MPPE for encryption. Some forms do not ask about it. Save the settings and start the connection.

  4. Check the IP address through the router

Use a phone on the Tenda’s Wi-Fi with mobile data off. The Ben's VPN app on that phone must be disconnected. Then check your IP address on any IP lookup site. The site should show the country of your server, not of your provider.

OpenVPN client: 1 .ovpn file per server

This option needs an OpenVPN client in the Tenda firmware. Press Download .ovpn next to the chosen server and import the file into that client. The file contains no login. The router asks for it separately. Enter the same login and password as for PPTP.

Each file lists its server twice. The second entry is the same server over TCP. Use it when the first entry does not connect.

Only 1 router at a time can connect with the router login. The Tenda loses its VPN connection when another router connects with it.

AX12 Pro, RX12L Pro and older Tenda models get the same login

Every Tenda model gets the same login, password and server list from us. The firmware needs a PPTP or OpenVPN client. A client connects from the router to a server on the internet.

A VPN server on the router is a different feature. It lets your own devices into the home network from outside. It does not connect the router to us. A Tenda with neither client cannot connect to our servers.

2 options for a Tenda without a client

Option 1 is a router with the Ben's VPN app on it. The app installs on Keenetic and Netcraze routers, OpenWrt routers and MikroTik routers. Not every model of these brands is supported.

Option 2 is the app on each device. Install it and press Connect. In the window that opens, choose Already have a subscription? → Sign in to account. Sign in with the same account as on the account page. There is no protocol or route to set: the app selects both. One subscription covers the apps for all your devices.

Tenda setup questions

Support 24/7: the chat on this site, Telegram @bensvpn and [email protected].

Can I exclude some sites from the VPN on the Tenda?

No, not on the Tenda itself. For PPTP and OpenVPN, the account page gives only a login, a password and the server list. For exclusions, use the Ben's VPN app on your devices instead of the VPN on the Tenda. In the app, the Tunnel button opens split tunneling for the sites you choose. A Keenetic or Netcraze router with our app on it also supports exclusions.

Why did the Tenda disconnect after I pressed “New password”?

The old password stops working about 2 minutes after you issue a new one. The login stays the same. Enter the new password in the router’s client and connect again.

Does my phone need the app when the Tenda has the VPN?

Not at home. On the Tenda’s Wi-Fi, the phone already uses the router’s VPN connection. On mobile data or another Wi-Fi network, it does not. Keep the app on the phone for those cases.

Does PPTP need a file the way OpenVPN does?

No. PPTP needs only a server IP from the list, the login and the password. The file from Download .ovpn is for an OpenVPN client.
